I'm David Gereighty, Congressional Candidate in the 1st District.
I was born and raised in our community, I am a graduate of Brother Martin High School and Tulane University.
This is my home, and with levees and jobs and our families futures being tossed around in Washington we need a representative committed to our community.
I'm a homegrown Engineer committed to the family in your house, not the White House.
The people of the 1st district need someone who will work full time for them in Congress. Not someone who will be too busy campaigning for governor. After Katrina we cannot afford to elect a representative who refuses to put the 1st district above his own political ambitions.
In order to restore our community we need to be confident we live within a system where we are protected, where our families and our homes are protected. This includes category five hurricane protection and coastal restoration. We must work with, not against others in congress to fully fund both of these critical areas.
I stepped forward because I felt strongly that the voters of the 1st District deserved a choice in this election. Health care is of vital importance to all people in our community. We need a Representative that will fight for quality medical care for everyone in the District, of all ages and of all incomes. The current representative claims to want affordable health care for all however his record of slashing benefits and closing health clinics says otherwise.
After studying the issues I am confident that you will stand up with our campaign and vote for me, David Gereighty, on November 7th to reclaim our voice and our vote in government. |

David was born in 1961 in New Orleans, LA. He grew up in Metairie and attended school in the New Orleans area at St. Catherine of Sienna, Haynes Middle School, Brother Martin High School and Tulane University.
David is married to Heidi Schumacher and they live in Metairie, LA. Heidi is the Chief of Dietary Services at Children's Hospital in New Orleans. David and Heidi have lived in Jefferson Parish the majority of their lives. David's father, Dennis Gereighty, Jr. served as a fire fighter on the Jefferson Parish fire department for over 20 years including several years as District Fire Chief for Jefferson Parish. David's mother, Andrea Gereighty, is a retired, small business owner.
David lived in the Annapolis, MD area, Pittsburgh, PA area and Charlotte, NC area while working for the Westinghouse corporation. He returned to Metairie after 13 years as an engineer at various locations of Westinghouse where during his tenure he worked on commercial, nuclear and military projects.

David has been active over the past ten years with Tulane Alumni organizations and served as chair of the Tulane Engineering Forum and on the Tulane Engineering School Board of Advisors. David has also been involved in projects of the Young Leadership Council. |
